Mount Mitake is a beginner-friendly mountain with convenient access from Tokyo. The Rock Garden trail, enveloped by lush greenery, provides a perfect spot for forest bathing enthusiasts to enjoy.

A loop trail featuring Shosenkyo Gorge, known as Japan's most beautiful gorge, and Rakanjisan, a rocky mountain with panoramic view of Mt. Fuji. Late April to early May is an ideal time to visit for cherry blossoms, while autumn foliage usually peaks early November.

Mt. Ryokami is a difficult challenge with steep rock walls, saw-toothed ridges, and chain sections. It's considered one of the toughest climbs near Tokyo that I only recommend for the most seasoned hikers. If you're not up for a serious challenge, keep scrolling.

Mt. Rausu in Shiretoko National Park is a must-visit for those seeking a truly immersive nature experience, offering stunning wildlife encounters amidst pristine natural beauty. Best season is July ~ early September.

One of the most popular hike on Kuju Mountains is from Makinoto Pass, which is easily accessible, to the summit. For the best experience of blooming flowers and colorful fall foliage, I recommend hiking during May to June or October to November.
